Chinese people believe that longan fruit is a divine gift from the heaven. In Chinese, ‘longan’ literally means ‘Dragon Eye’. Longan is named so because when the fruit is shelled it resembles the eyeball of a dragon and its black seed shows through the translucent flesh like a pupil/iris. Having seen the value of longan and having understood the problems of the farmers, the Faculty of Agro-Industry at Chiang Mai University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Charin Techapun, has made an extensive research and came up with an effective solution.
In order to protect the longan farmers and the market price of the fruit and after years of painstaking research, the Faculty of Agro-Industry developed in 2007 a miracle beverage formula - Natural extract nectar from longan.
